Following the tragic death of Tom Maynard on June 18th, a charitable Trust has been set up in his name.
Its aim is to help aspiring and disadvantaged cricketers and other sports people who require support with different aspects of their career development, including bursaries, help with training and education, financial support for overseas placements and assistance with kit and equipment.
The first fundraising event for the Tom Maynard Trust will be a bike ride from the SWALEC Stadium in Cardiff to the Kia Oval in London, arriving just before the Tom Maynard Memorial Match between Surrey and the Welsh Dragons takes place on Tuesday August 21st.
Sponsored by Brewin Dolphin, the peloton tackling the trek will include Tom’s father Matthew, riders from both Surrey CCC and Glamorgan CCC, friends of the Maynard family – including former England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff – and representatives of the Professional Cricketers Association.
The Surrey riders will include club Chairman Richard Thompson, who is also set to become a trustee of the Trust.
