The
Talent Pathway

SURREY COUNTY CRICKET CLUB’S PERFORMANCE DEPARTMENT IS RESPONSIBLE FOR TALENT IDENTIFICATION AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF YOUNG CRICKETERS WITHIN THE COUNTY.

About the Talent Pathway Programme

The primary focus of the programme is to promote the highest quality of performance on an individual and team basis in order to develop cricketers to play for Surrey and England.

Some of the cricketers to have emerged through the Surrey County Cricket Club Academy and Performance Programme in recent years include Rory Burns, Ollie Pope and Jason Roy.

Our department oversees Performance Courses (formerly known as District Cricket) & County Age Group (CAG) cricket from which the most talented of these cricketers progress into the Emerging Players Programme. 15 graduates of the pathway are currently part of Surrey’s County Cricket Club’s professional staff.

Since 2003, 30 men from the academy have gone on to play First-class, List A or T20 cricket at county level. 9 of these have played full internationals for England with many more representing the country at age group and Lions levels.

Three women have progressed through Surrey’s pathway to reach international honours.

Surrey Pathway Talent ID Video Assessments

Surrey County Cricket Club launched a new Video Assessment process in 2023 to improve the identification of young cricketers who want to join our Talent Pathway.

Previously, only local clubs, schools and other cricketing organisations had been able to nominate players for an assessment. The new video application process allows anyone who believes they are of the ability to be a Surrey CCC Performance Cricketer to nominate themselves.

Updates regarding the application process for 2024 will be shared soon.
