Surrey mascot Caesar the Lion has given his backing to the club’s partnership with Evelina London Children’s Hospital – by signing up to run the London Marathon!
Caesar, always a popular figure at the Kia Oval, is already hard in training to tackle the full 26.2 miles of the course from Greenwich to The Mall and wants Surrey fans to get behind him to raise as much money as possible for an undoubtedly fantastic cause.
Whilst he might not be likely to trouble the likes of Mo Farah and last year’s winner Tsegaye Kebede, Surrey’s favourite Lion is confident of raising big money and holding his own against fellow competitors such as the ubiquitous rhinos. Last year’s competition even included famous giant The FA Cup that was also seen at the Kia Oval later in the summer in the MailOnline London Mascot Derby III.
With nearly £5,000 already residing in his online fundraising account, the Big Cat – who will be powered through his amazing effort by Surrey Operations Manager David Gorrod – is already well on the way to launching the Surrey appeal in style.
As with all good mascots, Caesar likes to be seen and not heard so when he was asked for a quote this morning he simply responded with a double thumbs up and continued his intensive programme of stretches!
