Surrey have signed New Zealand International Rachel Candy as the Club’s overseas player for the newly renamed 2014 Royal London Women’s One Day Cup.
The tournament, previously named the Women’s County Championship, kicks off this Sunday (May 4th) with Surrey playing Warwickshire at Reed’s School in Cobham.
Seam bowler Candy joins a squad that includes England all-rounder Natalie Sciver – who played a key part in the England Women’s successful winter – and England T20 batter Susie Rowe, who will be on loan to Surrey from Kent for a second consecutive season.
After winning a relegation play off in 2013, the side will play in the tournament’s top division under the leadership of captain Cecily Scutt.
Candy has played 18 One Day Internationals and 10 T20 Internationals in a career that started in 2007, taking 27 wickets at an average of 30. Speaking to kiaoval.com this week she said: “I’m really excited about the opportunity to play for Surrey this season. I am looking forward to getting on the park and contributing where I can.”
Entrance to Women’s matches is always free of charge – and all 2014 home games will be played at Reed’s School in Cobham. Full fixtures are available on the fixtures page of the club website.
