Developing a sporting future for Kennington Park

Surrey CCC is committed to maintaining and developing sports provision within Kennington Park, a large and well used urban park situated 100m from the Kia Oval.

Sporting facilities in the park currently include a large Astroturf, grass football pitches, an artificial cricket pitch with grass outfield and cricket nets.

Facility Development and Provision

  • The creation and maintenance of an Astroturf cricket wicket
  • Upgrading of informal junior football pitches
  • Tree planting and landscaping to provide informal seating
  • New grass pitches and outfield renovation
  • New changing rooms
  • Apprenticeship support for a new local groundsman

Increasing Participation

  • Ongoing support to local cricket clubs and coaches
  • Increasing participation in other sports locally, including football
  • Engagement with local primary and secondary schools
  • Promotion of informal cricket including Last Man Stands

Community Cohesion

  • Twice Annual Kennington Cricket Festivals, sponsored by M.A.R. Galadari and run by the Surrey Cricket Board in conjunction with Major Matches at the Kia Oval
  • Focus on engaging new communities and residents through improved cricket and multi-sport facilities
  • Further expansion of Kennington Cricket Festivals, making use of new and improved facilities within the park

Having high quality and accessible sports and recreation facilities is vital in an inner city environment. Surrey’s ongoing work to provide them within an improved Kennington Park if of great benefit to the Lambeth community.
