2nd XI suffer heavy defeat to Essex

Published: 9th July, 2019

Surrey 2nd XI lost by an innings and 15 runs inside two days of their three-day fixture with Essex at Billericay CC.

Will Jacks was the only man to pass 50 in either innings for Surrey as they twice struggled in response to the hosts’ 338/8 declared. Surrey made 160 and 163 respectively in their two innings meaning they couldn’t force Essex to bat again.

Feroze Khushi was the key player for Essex, scoring 156 of the 338 runs. George Barlow was the pick of Surrey’s bowlers with 3/46 while Ryan Patel (2/76), Prince Singh (2/48) and Freddie van den Bergh (1/58) also picked up wickets. Matt Dunn and Stuart Meaker had opened the bowling for Surrey.

Jacks (58) and Patel (38) shared a second wicket partnership of 95 in the first innings but were the only two to offer any real resistance. Jacks again top scored in the second innings, with 35, but it wasn’t enough for Surrey.
