It looks set to be one of the biggest years of cricket in England ever but what does 2019 hold for Surrey and the Kia Oval in particular?
The World Cup will begin here, the Ashes will end here and Surrey have two titles to defend in the meantime. That’s just for starters.
Over the next few weeks we’ll take an alphabetical run through of the most exciting and prominent aspects of the year to come in South London and for the county.
As this is the penultimate week we will be going from P – T today. Come back to kiaoval.com every Wednesday for the next batch of things to keep an eye out for.
P – Pakistan ODI
The first ODI of the English summer – one that will see a World Champion crowned in July – will take place at the Kia Oval as England and Pakistan prepare for the ICC World Cup.
Pakistan’s last visit to the Kia Oval was a memorable one indeed as they were crowned Champions Trophy victors with a crushing defeat of arch rivals India in 2017. Eoin Morgan’s England side however will be looking to ensure they are in the best possible shape for the World Cup.
What a day we all had yesterday!

Whatever the outcome on the day, it promises to be an exciting start to the biggest summer of international cricket at the Kia Oval in the ground’s history. Given that this fixture is now sold out, anyone lucky enough to be at the Kia Oval on the 8th May will have a day to remember.
Q – Queues tackled
With E-Tickets now available for all major matchdays at the Kia Oval, it’s now easier than ever for all 25,000 of the capacity crowds attracted to Vitality Blast and international cricket to get in and out of the ground at their will – providing the ‘Print At Home’ option is selected upon purchase.
Once inside the ground, the cashless system in place at all bars and food outlets – and in the Pavilion from 2019 – ensures supporters spend less time waiting in line and more time enjoying the match whether from the concourse or the comfort of their seat.
R – Retailing website refresh
Surrey’s brand new retail website will launch on Friday 1st February with an improved user experience planned.
A 2019 range of kits, cricket gear and gifts will be available in the coming months. Keep your eyes peeled on kiaoval.com and our social media channels!
S – Summer parties
Summers aren’t just about cricket. They’re also about parties.
This year all organisers for summer parties will be entered into a draw for Ashes tickets and once you’ve coupled this with a great venue, fantastic food and incredible prices able to suit groups sized from 50 to 1500 then the Kia Oval starts to stand out doesn’t it?

T – Title defence
Having lifted our first Specsavers County Championship title in 16 years during 2018, the focus this year is to retain the ultimate trophy in county cricket.
10 wins, three draws and one loss may be hard to emulate in the coming season, especially with several of our top performers in the year just gone now representing England.
South Africans Dean Elgar and Morne Morkel will be returning while the current crop of Surrey Academy graduates will be ready to fill the gap left by the likes of Rory Burns, Ben Foakes and Sam Curran.
It’s sure to be a wild ride though and with a 2019 Membership, you can make sure you’re at the Kia Oval and Guildford to see every day of cricket at home.
