It looks set to be one of the biggest years of cricket in England ever but what does 2019 hold for Surrey and the Kia Oval in particular?
The World Cup will begin here, the Ashes will end here and Surrey have two titles to defend in the meantime. That’s just for starters.
Over the last few weeks we have taken an alphabetical run through of the most exciting and prominent aspects of the year to come in South London and for the county.
Without further ado, let’s get on with our final week of exciting 2019 happenings.
U – U16s Join Pride of Lions
With 785 members at the start of February, our pride continues to grow to be one of the biggest and proudest in the country. Any Surrey fan under the age of 16 is welcome in this pride whether you’re a keen cricket lover or just getting your head around the game.
As a Pride of Lions Member, as well as having your tickets sorted for the entire summer, you are invited to our annual Pride of Lions Day which includes games, competitions and visits from some of your favourite Surrey heroes.
There’s also a special online space for Pride of Lions that allows you to see the latest behind-the-scenes videos and news and a discount in the club shop to make sure you’re kitted out in the Surrey gear!
V – View it all online
Our highly successful live stream will return in 2019 with every non-televised delivery at the Kia Oval and Guildford in the four major domestic competitions (Specsavers County Championship, Royal London One-Day Cup, Vitality Blast & Kia Super League) able to view for free on kiaoval.com.
With live replays and commentary from trusty voices Mark Church and Johnny Barran, it’s the perfect option for those that can’t quite make it to the matches as often as they’d like.

As we all know, work and life can get in the way when you just want to watch cricket all day but if you can’t keep the live stream going then we’ll also have all the key moments on our social media channels, especially Twitter.
Keep your eyes out on matchday for links to the live stream and all the latest action as it happens!
W – World Cup Fever
As if our usual catalogue of cricket in an Ashes year isn’t exciting enough, it’s also the turn of England & Wales to host the ICC World Cup!
Here at The Oval we will have two warm-up matches before our five games in the tournament proper, including the opener as tournament favourites England take on South Africa on 30th May.
Following that, South Africa will face Bangladesh on 2nd June before Bangladesh then face off against New Zealand on the 5th. One of the biggest games of the whole tournament then comes to South London as India and Australia clash on Sunday 9th June. Our own World Cup ends on the 15th when Australia return, this time to face Sri Lanka.
Tickets for these matches are sold by the ICC but for more information and to register interest in hospitality packages call 0207 820 5670 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
X – Xmas Parties
That’s right! It may only be February and we may have a packed summer to get through first but it would be remiss of us not to already be planning for a magical 2019 Christmas.
With a central location, panoramic views of London’s skyline and an ability to cater for up to 1000; why not make one of the most iconic venues in sport the place to host your Christmas party this year?
Head to events.kiaoval.com, email email@example.com or call 0207 820 5670 to speak to one of our team.
Y – Youngsters
2018 saw 15 Surrey Academy graduates represent our first team across all three formats of the game, with seven of those under 21. For two in particular it was an especially memorable year as Sam Curran and Ollie Pope became England Test cricketers during the 4-1 series victory over India.
That’s not to forget the likes of spinner Amar Virdi, all-rounders Ryan Patel & Will Jacks and seamer Conor McKerr who each contributed heavily to our Specsavers County Championship success.
There was also Jamie Smith who came from nowhere as an uncontracted 17-year-old to make his debut at a sold out Lord’s in the Vitality Blast. The wicket keeper batsman does now have a contract and is eyeing a big year.

Where will our current crop of talent be come the end of the 2019 season? Will any new names emerge as the campaign unfolds? We’ll have to wait and see!
Z – Family Zone
A night of Vitality Blast at the Home of T20 Cricket was already one of the best nights out a family can choose with explosive cricket, exciting music and chances to win big. Since the introduction of the Family Zone in the OCS Stand, it is now even better!
