Gus Atkinson, Gareth Batty and Rikki Clarke have all extended their contracts with Surrey until the end of the 2020 domestic season.
All three saw their deals finish at the close of the 2019 season but have put pen to paper with the Club for another 12 months. Clarke’s deal includes a performance based option to extend for the 2021 campaign.
Clarke was one of the standout players in a tough summer this year for Surrey – winning Members’ Player of the Year, Supporters’ Club Player of the Season and Kia Bowler of the Year after taking 49 wickets and scoring 731 runs across all formats. His new contract means he will enter his 20th year on the county circuit.
Batty, by comparison, will now head into his 24th year after making his county debut back in 1997. The off-spinner picked up 48 wickets across all formats this year having started the season in the Specsavers County Championship team before missing just three of 22 white-ball matches. He was handed a player/coach role in July 2018 and those responsibilities will continue with the professional and age group set ups when he is not involved in first-team cricket.
All-rounder Atkinson is yet to make his first XI debut for Surrey after two years on the professional staff having been unable to bowl through much of the 2019 campaign due to a stress fracture in his back. The 21-year-old still managed 13 2nd XI appearances this summer, predominantly as a batsman.
