Martin Bicknell, one of the greatest Surrey bowlers of the modern age, will become the latest Club icon to lead a Legends Tour of the Kia Oval.
Bicknell follows in the footsteps of his former skipper Adam Hollioake, who will lead a tour in March to launch the special opportunity for fans, helping to celebrate the Club’s 175th anniversary.
The man universally known as ‘Bickers’ is joining a tour at 2.30pm on Saturday April 4th, giving a small group of lucky fans the chance to look behind the scenes at the Kia Oval alongside one of the most garlanded seamers in Surrey history.
Tickets cost just £30 for adults, £27 for seniors and £10 for U16s – with a family of four able to attend for just £70. Click here to book your place. With a very limited number of places, fans are urged to book quickly to avoid disappointment.
A club man for his entire career, Bicknell was the most recent Surrey player to reach 1,000 first-class wickets, eventually retiring with 1,439 in all formats. He also has the historic distinction of being the man to bowl the first ever T20 over delivered in Surrey colours, in the Club’s inaugural game in the format against Middlesex in 2003.
Whilst he just missed out on selection in the Club’s All Time XI – winning 28% of the votes and just missing out behind the incredible quartet of Alec Bedser, Jim Laker, Tony Lock and Waqar Younis – Bicknell was named by luminaries including Rikki Clarke, Gareth Batty, Adam Hollioake and current Club captain Rory Burns on their voting forms, showing the immense influence and respect he still commands in the Surrey squad.
The tour will be led by an experienced Oval tour guide, with Bicknell adding insights, stories and memories from his superb Surrey career. The afternoon will end with a special Q+A session, ensuring everyone gets the opportunity to ask Bickers about his time at the Club.
Surrey are still working with other former players to roll out further ‘Legends Tours’ over the summer, with further announcements due shortly.
