Borthwick makes century for Surrey 2nds

Published: 13th September, 2017

Scott Borthwick is 116 not out overnight after the first day of play in the friendly between Surrey 2nds and Yorkshire at Wimbledon CC.

Having lost the toss and been put into bat, Nick Welch and Arun Harinath fell cheaply and left Surrey 20/2 early in proceedings.

Will Jacks, batting at four, was also dismissed for single figures as Borthwick and teenager Euan Woods came together for the first substantial partnership in the match.

The pair took Surrey from 34/3 to 123/4 when Woods fell for 43 off 59 balls with six fours on the way.

Borthwick then grasped the nettle and took command in his partnership with Oliver Batchelor, reaching 116 off just 152 balls before the rain ended the day shortly before tea with Surrey on 203/4.
