Surrey are delighted to announce that both first team captains Rory Burns and Jade Dernbach have agreed new contracts at the Kia Oval.
Club captain Burns, who leads the Specsavers County Championship and Royal London One-Day Cup sides, will remain at Surrey until at least the end of the 2022 season while Vitality Blast skipper Dernbach has penned until the close of the 2020 campaign.
The pair both graduated through the Surrey Academy making their senior debuts in 2011 and 2003 respectively.
This latest announcement comes after a number of new contracts have been signed in recent weeks with a total of twelve players extending their deals in January.
In his first season as captain in 2018, 28-year-old Burns led Surrey to their first Championship title since 2002 and scored a league-high 1359 runs, his fifth consecutive season with more than 1000 first-class runs, to earn a call-up to the England Test side.
2018 was also Dernbach’s first year leading the T20 side as Surrey produced some memorable performances but ultimately exited the competition at the group stage. The 32-year-old was also crucial to the red-ball success, picking up 32 wickets in his 10 Division One matches.
Director of Cricket Alec Stewart said: “I’m very pleased to have extended the contracts of our Club captain and T20 captain. Having been here their entire careers, both Rory & Jade have Surrey in their blood and they will be working hard to bring success to the Club across all formats in the coming seasons.”
