As part of Surrey County Cricket Club’s 175th anniversary celebrations, The Kia Oval will host a dinner for Members and fans to reflect on the Club’s history on Friday 6th March 2020.
Formed in 1845, the Club has enjoyed a 175-year history that includes 20 County Championship titles and trophies won across all three formats.
The evening will start at 6pm with arrival drinks on the Corinthian Roof Terrace offering panoramic views of the London skyline and incredible views of ground. A three-course dinner will then be served in the England Suite of the 1845 Stand featuring a bespoke menu designed by Kia Oval Head Chef, Josh Stanton.
Players will be attending the event, spanning the Club’s playing staff from the 1950’s to the current squad. A Q&A will take place as well as an after-dinner speech, whilst guests can browse Club memorabilia that will be on display throughout the evening.
The evening will also serve as a launch event for the Club’s 175th anniversary commemorative book, which will be released before the start of the season. The book tells the story of the first 175 years of Surrey County Cricket Club – with exclusive articles by former England openers Michael Atherton and Steve James, as well as Barney Ronay, Tanya Aldred and Jonathan Liew.
Surrey have also teamed up with Getty Images to uncover some of the great photographs in Club history. As well as well known shots of iconic moments, the book is packed full of unseen gems of greats like Sir Jack Hobbs, Sir Alec Bedser, Percy Fender and even Victorian stars like Tom Richardson and Bobby Abel.
At the back of the book, paying homage to a tradition from Club history, will be a list of all Surrey County Cricket Club Members for the 2020 season that have renewed by Friday January 17th. The cut off date is to enable the book to be completed and released in time for the start of the season.
All fans of the Club are invited to the evening and tickets are available to purchase via the Club’s Ticketing Site for £50. Included in the price is:
- Drinks reception and hors d’oeuvres on the Corinthian Roof Terrace
- Three-course dinner with menu designed by Kia Oval Executive Head Chef Josh Stanton
- 1/2 bottle of wine per person
- Tea, coffee and petit fours
Please note that there is limited availability for the event and fans are advised to book early to avoid disappointment.
There will be more celebrations throughout the year, with further announcements being made in due course about other Club projects being launched to mark the 175th anniversary.
