Aylish Cranstone was the key player for Surrey Women as they won one and lost one match in their opening T20 double header of the season.
Cranstone scored an unbeaten 55 in the first match of the day as Surrey lost to Birmingham before her 66 was the key innings in victory over Wales at Edgbaston Foundation Ground.
In the opening match of the day, Surrey batted first and it was Cranstone’s 34-ball innings that took the visitors to the total of 141. Kirstie White (22) and Hannah Jones (21) also provided crucial runs to Surrey’s total but it wasn’t enough as 68 from Marie Kelly won the match for the hosts.
An impressive bowling effort in the second match restricted Wales to 129/5 with Claudie Cooper the pick of the bowlers with 3/22. Danielle Gregory (1/11) and Alice Capsey (1/24) were also in the wickets.
While Cranstone’s 66 before being caught by Ffion Wynne wasn’t enough to guide Surrey all the way to victory, it was the centrepiece. White (27) and Amy Gordon (21) were the two batsmen in the middle as the nine-wicket win was sealed.
Surrey Women are next in action on Sunday 16th June when they take on Kent & Sussex at the Brighton Aldridge Community Academy.
