Highly respected Surrey and England seamer Jade Dernbach will leave the Club at the end of 2021 season after nineteen years’ service – choosing to pursue options away from The Kia Oval due to a lack of playing time.
Dernbach has been at Surrey since he was a teenager, initially representing the Club in age group cricket before making his debut against India A in 2003 and going onto play for England between 2011 and 2014.
Over the course of his Surrey career, he has taken 583 wickets for the Club in all competitions, across 331 games. A committed and popular player amongst fans and Members, Dernbach played a key role in winning both the County Championship in 2018 and the CB40 trophy in 2011.
He leaves the Club as its joint leading wicket taker in T20 history, with 114 scalps taken at an average of 27.11 in 111 games, in most of which he bowled either in the powerplay at the beginning of an innings or in the death overs at the end. He also captained the side in the 2018 and 2019 T20 Blast campaigns.
Dernbach also achieved the honour of playing for his country, representing England in 24 One Day Internationals and 34 International T20s and taking 70 international wickets.
Jade Dernbach said: “I would like to thank Surrey for everything they have done for me, this has been my home for the best part of 20 years and I will certainly miss it.
“It’s the right time for me to take on a new challenge as my opportunities would have been limited at Surrey but I wish all the players the best of luck for the future and look forward to returning to the Kia Oval in the near future.”
