Surrey Head Coach Michael Di Venuto sees consistency as the route to success in this year’s Royal London One-Day Cup.
Surrey blew hot and cold during the 2018 campaign and it didn’t prove enough to progress through the South Group, failing to reach the final for the first time since 2014.
Speaking in this week’s preview show, Di Venuto insisted that is the biggest chance his side can make this year: “In both of our white ball competitions we didn’t start well enough and it’s important to get off to a good start for some breathing space. We know our best is good enough but it’s about lessening those bad days.
“When we’re good we’re very good but when we’re bad, we’re very bad. With the talent we’ve got in our dressing room, there’s no reason we can’t lessen that gap.”
Having current England internationals Tom Curran, Liam Plunkett and Jason Roy available for the first four matches will certainly help Surrey get off to that flying start the coach is looking for.
“It’s exciting for everyone; for us as a team, for the fans to watch our best players and for those guys to be around our group again. We’re looking forward to those guys leading the way alongside our young guys in order to play an exciting brand of cricket,” he said.
