Surrey all-rounder Will Jacks was awarded Man of the Match in England’s opening U19 World Cup Game, a comfortable eight wicket win over Namibia.
After hitting an unbeaten century in last week’s warm up victory over Ireland, Jacks continued his excellent form with both bat and ball.
Namibia won the toss and batted first in Queenstown, with Jacks making an initial impact with the ball as bowled his ten overs for just 30 runs. He also took the wicket of Namibian captain Lohan Louwrens, caught by Dillon Pennington at short fine leg.
However, it was with the bat that Jacks made his biggest mark, smashing 73* from just 44 balls including 12 boundaries and a six. He added an unbroken 130 with captain Harry Brook (59*) as England romped to victory with more than half their overs remaining.
Jacks’ all-round excellence was rewarded with the Man of the Match award, presented at the end of the game by Surrey legend Mark Butcher.
England will now continue their campaign with a match against Bangladesh on Thursday.
