Surrey will return to Dubai’s ICC Academy for a training camp this March as part of their preparations for the 2020 domestic campaign.
All fit and available players will head to the Middle East on 17th March for intensive training before returning home to complete their pre-season schedule on 28th March.
While there will be matches played between the members of the Surrey squad in attendance, there will be no friendlies against local sides or rival counties as in previous years.
This will be Surrey’s third consecutive pre-season trip to Dubai after a tour in 2018 and a 2019 visit that included the Champion County match against the MCC, which ended in a draw following a debut century for Jamie Smith and a first-class high score for Ollie Pope.
With this year’s training camp coinciding with England’s Test tour of Sri Lanka and the start of the Indian Premier League, several players are likely to be unavailable to travel to Dubai including Sam Curran, Tom Curran, Ollie Pope and Jason Roy.
Surrey’s players have been in training for the 2020 campaign since November. They remain indoors for now but will head out to the marquee, to net on pitches replicating summer conditions, on The Kia Oval outfield later this month.
Once the players return from Dubai, they will play two red-ball friendlies against Sussex and Middlesex, with the latter taking place at The Kia Oval. They will then finalise County Championship practice in a three-day away fixture at Oxford MCCU, starting on Monday 13th April.
