Matt Dunn took four wickets as Surrey 2nds bowled out Gloucestershire for 326 on the first day of their three day match at Rockhampton CC.
The seamer, recovering from a fractured rib earlier in the season, bowled 14.2 overs with figures of 4/50 while Mat Pillans took three wickets, Chris Green two and Euan Woods one.
Openers Nick Welch and Arun Harinath then saw the visitors safely through to the end of play on Monday with Surrey on 45/0.
Having lost the toss and been asked to bowl, Gloucestershire’s top four all made starts with the bat with Ian Cockbain top scoring on 70 and William Tavare making 64.
Once through the top four, it was quick progress for Surrey’s bowlers with Gloucestershire going from 216/3 to 326 all out.
Pillans, who saw off both Cockbain and Tavare, ended with figures of 3/68 from his 19 overs while Green finished with 2/53 after 20 and Woods claimed 1/40. Nico Reifer, Will Jacks and Jack Laraman also bowled for Surrey.
With 16 overs still to navigate for Harinath and Welch, they were watchful and will return on Tuesday morning with a solid base to the Surrey response.
