Greatest XI: Surrey’s most picked players

Published: 3rd November, 2019

With just one week left until Surrey’s Greatest XI is unveiled, we’ve had a look at the top 10 players selected by you so far and what a list it is!

Current Director of Cricket and legendary England wicket keeper Alec Stewart leads the way with 79% of the votes. He’s 74% ahead of the next most chosen wicket keeper, our current incumbent Ben Foakes.

Our first on-sale date for Members is next Tuesday 12th November. Make sure you’ve got your 2020 Membership in place before then to have priority access to international tickets on the 12th.

Spinner Jim Laker, one of the stars of the dominant 1950s team that won seven County Championship titles in a row, is one vote ahead of the Club’s greatest ever run scorer Jack Hobbs. Hobbs made 144 centuries and hit 43,554 runs for Surrey.

Sir Alec Bedser is the fourth most popular option ahead of batsmen Ken Barrington and John Edrich and iconic 90s captain Adam Hollioake. Peter May is eighth before Laker’s bowling partner Tony Lock and Pakistani pace man Waqar Younis, who is the only overseas currently within the top ten.

Have you had a go yet? Make sure your vote is counted before the deadline this Sunday to ensure your favourite player is one of the first inductees into Surrey’s Hall of Fame.
