Surrey’s new Vitality Blast signing Imran Tahir has had a highly distinguished career in all three formats of the game. Here we take a look at the numbers that make up his life in professional cricket.
The leg spinner has featured for South Africa across Tests, ODIs and T20s as well as performing in several of the most high profile T20 leagues around the world.
He has claimed 282 wickets in all international cricket, with the majority coming in One-Day Internationals. He has picked up 162 in the 50-over game with 57 more coming in 20 Test matches and 63 in 38 T20 appearances.
Tahir was the standout bowler in this year’s Indian Premier League, claiming 26 wickets as Chennai Super Kings made it to the final before suffering defeat to the Mumbai Indians. His reward for finishing top of the tree was the Purple Cap.
Tahir was ranked as the best bowler in the world in both ODI and T20 cricket in 2017 as he spearheaded South Africa’s highly talented attack for the ICC Champions Trophy and white-ball tour of England.
Tahir’s haul of 303 T20 wickets have come at an excellent average of 20.58 with an economy rate of slightly more than seven which proves his credentials as one of the premier white-ball bowlers in the game.
Tahir has played in six of the biggest T20 leagues around the world and brings a wealth of experience to Surrey with him. The spinner has starred in the Indian Premier League, Pakistan Super League, Bangladesh Premier League, Caribbean Premier League, Mzansi Super League and the Vitality Blast.
