Australian international Nic Maddinson will join Surrey as the club’s second overseas player for the 2018 Vitality Blast.
Maddinson, who has played for his country at Test and T20I level, is a powerful batsman capable of playing anywhere in the top or middle order.
He will join fellow Australian big hitter Aaron Finch at Surrey following the completion of their international commitments against England, Pakistan and Zimbabwe.
The 26-year-old has played two T20Is for Australia, one in 2013 and one in 2014, as well as three Tests during his nation’s 2016/17 series with South Africa.
In addition to eight years with New South Wales in Australian state cricket, Maddinson has played in the Big Bash League for Sydney Sixers, the Indian Premier League for Royal Challengers Bangalore and the Caribbean Premier League for Guyana Amazon Warriors.
In total, Maddinson has played 73 T20s and scored 1549 runs at a strike rate of 130.93 with nine half-centuries to his name.
On joining Surrey, Maddinson said: “I very much look forward to playing with Surrey during this year’s Vitality Blast season.
“It’s a fabulous opportunity to play at a great sporting organization such as Surrey County Cricket Club and with my Australian counterpart Aaron Finch. I also welcome the opportunity of working with Head Coach Michael Di Venuto.
“Having the Kia Oval as our home ground also gives me the chance to play at one of England’s great iconic grounds. Let’s hope I can help Surrey win the title.”
Surrey Director of Cricket, Alec Stewart added: “We’re delighted to have recruited Nic alongside Aaron Finch as an overseas player for this year’s Vitality Blast.
“Nic is an exciting batsman who brings a wealth of T20 experience to the squad.”
