Surrey CCC have signed Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh as the club’s overseas player for the 2018 season.
Marsh, 26 today, will play for the club in all forms of cricket and, having foregone the chance to pursue an IPL contract, will be with Surrey throughout the summer, subject to any Australian commitments.
As the current captain of Western Australia, Marsh is due to be available for Surrey for the start of the Specsavers County Championship campaign.
An experienced International, Marsh has played 21 Test Matches, 48 One Day Internationals and nine T20 Internationals for Australia, scoring over 2,000 runs and taking more than 70 wickets.
Domestically, he is also three time BBL winner with the Perth Scorchers – and will once again play for Justin Langer’s side as they try to win their fourth title in seven seasons this winter.
Speaking after signing his deal, Marsh said: “I’m extremely excited to join Surrey for the 2018 season. The opportunity to challenge myself in English conditions is something I can’t wait for.
“I have followed the team closely this year and hopefully I’ll be able to contribute to some silverware, along with helping a young squad grow and improve.
“The opportunity to work with Michael di Venuto and Alec Stewart is also very exciting. Bring on 2018!”
Surrey CCC Director of Cricket Alec Stewart added: “I’m very pleased to announce the signing of Mitch Marsh, a highly talented, exciting and motivated international all-rounder.
“His all-round abilities and experience will add great balance and depth to our squad in all formats of the game and I look forward to welcoming him to the Kia Oval for the start of next season.”
