Surrey keeper/batsman Ollie Pope took control of our Instagram account yesterday and gave an insight into what he is up to in Australia while playing for Club side Campbelltown.
The 19 year-old enjoyed a break through season with the Club in 2017, featuring heavily in the shorter formats before making his debut in the County Championship, scoring his maiden first-class century in the following game against Hampshire.
It was in the white ball formats where the young batsman made a name for himself though, often adding much needed impetus towards the back end of an innings with some outrageous stroke making and quick running between the wickets. Ollie’s energy in the field was another massive bonus for the side, taking some valuable catches and keeping the oppositions run rate down.
He was the third highest run scorer in the T20 Blast for Surrey last season, with only International big hitting openers Aaron Finch and Jason Roy amassing more runs for the Club.
During the winter Ollie will be spending time in Australia on an ECB Overseas placement where he will play for Campbelltown while receiving specialist coaching during the week.
The Instagram takeover began with a reminder that the sun is shining in Australia as Ollie visited Malabar Beach before he headed off for training.
Following his morning stroll, Ollie was put through his paces at training with an outdoor sprint session .
Back to training and Ollie showed our Instagram viewers a sneak peak of the picturesque SCG.
Where he then went to have a net…
Training done for the day, Ollie returned to the beach with a couple of teammates.
Heading home in the pick-up. Ollie signed off his takeover from the truck.
Thanks for an insight into your day, Popey! Keep an eye out for next week’s takeover as we get back to the Kia Oval and have a look at what the boys are getting up to during pre-season.
