Persistent rain across two and a half days meant there were only 56 overs bowled in Surrey’s 2nd XI three-day meeting with Kent at Polo Farm this week.
Having won the toss and elected to bat first at the Canterbury ground, Surrey were 204/6 when the rain set in. The adverse weather throughout the rest of the two and a half days meant it wasn’t possible for the players to return to the middle.
In the play that was possible, young wicket keeper Gareth Schreuder had reached 53 unbeaten with Jade Dernbach, on his return to full fitness following a calf injury, his partner on 15 not out.
Dernbach was joined in the Surrey team by fellow professionals Freddie van den Bergh and Amar Virdi.
Surrey 2nd XI are back in action on Monday 17th June when they face MCC Young Cricketers at High Wycombe Cricket Club. Click here to see all fixtures for the rest of the season.
