Surrey’s young wicket keeper-batsman Jamie Smith will lead England’s Young Lions on their upcoming white ball tour of Bangladesh.
Smith will take charge of the 15-man squad for one T20 and 3 ODIs in Cox’s Bazar at the end of this month and remain part of the squad for the two Tests that follow in February.
The England U19s enjoyed a UK-based training camp before Christmas but the T20 on January 27 is set to be Smith’s first match for the Young Lions.
18-year-old Smith signed his first professional contract with Surrey in July 2018, shortly after making his senior debut for the Club in our Vitality Blast opener against Middlesex at Lord’s.
Young Lions Head Coach Jon Lewis said: “As is always the case for any trip to the subcontinent we’re expecting an extremely tough trip.
“Bangladesh are a force to reckoned with in their own conditions, as we’ve seen from when our senior side have travelled there. The subcontinent is always tricky, and we expect it to be incredibly hard.
“However I’m very pleased with this group. We worked very hard before Christmas during our training camp in India and I’m really looking forward to seeing how the players adapt to the conditions and to what they can learn from this trip as they continue their journey.”
