Surrey CCC have appointed Steve Coulson – vicar of the neighbouring St. Mark’s Parish – as the Club Chaplain.
Coulson has been at St. Mark’s for the first three years and is already a well known face around the Kia Oval, officiating at the wedding of Club President Pat Pocock’s son earlier this summer.
In his new role he will be available to speak to all players and staff at the club, should they feel need further support than is already available. As a central London pastor, he will also be able to consult with leading figures in other faiths should the occasion arise.
Speaking this week, Surrey CCC Chairman Richard Thompson said: “It would like to wholeheartedly welcome Rev. Coulson to the club in a formal capacity. He is already a popular figure at the Kia Oval and we are delighted he has accepted our invitation.
“Good relationships with our local community are a key part of running the club successfully and Steve and his congregation at St. Mark’s are a big part of that – I hope Steve’s new role cements and improves this”
Rev. Coulson added: “I am delighted to have accepted the invitation to be Club Chaplain, and I look forward to offering support in any way I can to the whole community of Surrey CCC. St. Mark’s Church is honoured to have this closer link with the club just 200 yards up the road.”
