Mark Stoneman has been named in England’s Test squad for the opening match of the summer against Pakistan at Lord’s, starting on Thursday 24 May.
Opening batsman Stoneman is Surrey’s only representative in the 12-man squad for the first Test in the two-match series.
The 30-year-old has played 10 Test matches after making his debut in the first Test of last summer’s series with West Indies and is now in line for his second Test appearance at Lord’s.
Stoneman was the second highest run scorer in Division One of last season’s Specsavers County Championship, clocking up more than 1000 runs in the competition for the fifth consecutive season.
There was also good news for another Surrey man this afternoon as Tom Curran was awarded an incremental contract from the ECB for his performances during the 2017/18 contract year.
Curran has played two Test matches, eight ODIs and six T20Is since his international debut in June 2017 and is currently in the Indian Premier League with Kolkata Knight Riders.
