Members of Surrey County Cricket Club don’t just have the opportunity to enjoy seeing their beloved team play at one of the cricket’s leading grounds, they can also attend a number of special events each year.
2020 is no different to that and with the Club celebrating its 175th anniversary this summer, there are even more opportunities to get involved at The Kia Oval.
FIRST MEMBERS FORUM
It all begins just next week when we host our first Members’ Forum of 2020. Members’ Forums are your chance to make your voice heard by Club representatives.
On 20th February, Chief Executive Richard Gould and a member of the cricket staff will address the attendees with their current plans before opening the floor to questions. It kicks off at 6pm and entry is free for all Surrey Members.
Then comes a cause for celebration. On March 6th, before the men’s squad head to Dubai for a pre-season training camp, many of the Club’s most recognisable faces will be at a dinner to commemorate the start of our 175th campaign since our inception in 1845.
Presented by our Chairman Richard Thompson, both the men’s and women’s squad will be there and taking to the stage throughout the evening. This event is now sold out to Members but keep your eyes peeled for more chances to celebrate this special landmark.
Our County Championship season may not begin at The Kia Oval until Sunday 19th April but we’ll be welcoming plenty of Members to 1845 Stand before then. Our pre-season lunch, with players in attendance, will be on 6th April at 1pm before our Pride of Lions Members (those under 16) enjoy a day of fun cricket activities to kick off their year’s membership in the best way possible.
Once we’ve got going with the campaign, we’ll host our Annual General Meeting on April 30th – covering the formal business of the Club’s past year and upcoming plans as well as announcing the new members of the General Committee.
THE HEAT OF THE SUMMER
The next Members’ Forum follows on the 27th May before the Pride of Lions return for a special match day on the first day of our County Championship meeting with Kent on 14th June.
7th July sees a breakfast forum held in the 1845 Stand ahead of the third day of play against Hampshire in the County Championship. End the summer holidays at The Kia Oval with a party for all Pride of Lions Members on 28th August.
BRINGING IT TO A CLOSE
September is a bittersweet time for cricket fans in the UK as it often brings the most glorious moments of the season but with the knowledge that another winter without the game on our shores is looming.
After the final Members Forum of the season on September 9th (the second day of the penultimate home County Championship match), we’ll round off our season before the End of Season Awards night after the final day of the final game. Here’s hoping we have something to celebrate as players, staff and Members all gather in the Jardine Suite of The Kia Oval on September 25th!
