Surrey and England seamer Tom Curran has signed for the Sydney Sixers for the 2018/19 Australian Big Bash League.
Curran has signed a one year deal with the Sixers, returning to Australia for a second straight winter after making his international breakthrough down under last Christmas.
TC will play under Sixers captain and former Surrey team mate Moises Henriques in Sydney, joining international stars such as Nathan Lyon and Peter Nevill as well as Kent all-rounder Joe Denly, who famously took a hat trick and scored a century against Surrey at the Kia Oval earlier this year.
Tom Curran said: “I’m absolutely delighted to be joining the Sydney Sixers for the 2018/2019 Big Bash. Friends and colleagues have told me what a great team environment it is and how passionate the fans are and I’m hugely excited to experience this all for myself.
“I can’t wait to get to Sydney and hopefully help the team have a great season.”
Sydney Sixers General Manager, Jodie Hawkins added: “Tom is a very welcome addition to team Sixers and brings a wealth of talent with the ball, but also with the bat, to the squad. He’s also a great guy who will fit right in with our culture and group of players.”
The Sixers campaign in this year’s men’s BBL will kick off at the iconic Sydney Cricket Ground on Saturday December 22nd with a game against the Perth Scorchers.
After ending the English season by helping Surrey win the County Championship, Curran has already clocked up a fair amount of air miles this winter, travelling to Sri Lanka with England, where he played three One Day Internationals and a T20 before going to the UAE to represent Kerala Knights in the T10 competition.
This is Curran’s first appearance in Australia’s premiere T20 competition. He was due to play in the 2017/18 BBL, for Tasmanian side Hobart Hurricanes, but pulled out of the tournament after being called into England’s Ashes squad.
