Surrey’s U18s players finally got their 2020 summer under way with a two-day intra-squad friendly at LSE New Malden this week.
22 of the best available players currently in the Club’s academy were split into two teams for the match, with George Ealham and Ben Geddes chosen to lead the sides.
Ealham’s side batted first, making 284/6 from 112 overs before declaring to ensure a full match for players on both teams.
U15s middle order batsmen Tom Humphreys and Veer Patel led the way for Ealham’s team, scoring 83 and 62 respectively. Last year’s Academy Player of the Year Sean Hunt also passed the half-century mark, making 52.
Impressing with the ball in that innings were Tom Lawes, who claimed 2/28 with his right-arm seam, and off-spinner Tom Ealham taking 2/24 from his 16 overs.
No one made the half-century mark in the response but Freddie Geffen (41), skipper Geddes (44) & Lawes (48) all played nicely.
Hunt, a left arm seamer, was the key bowler in that innings taking 2/27. Spinner Shoaib Bashir bowled 21 overs for 2/29 too.
