Nick Welch scored 175 not out for Surrey 2nds on the second day of their three day match with Gloucestershire at Rockhampton CC.
Continuing on 24 after seeing through the end of the first day with the hosts all out for 326, Welch batted throughout the entire Surrey innings to end on 175 from 235 balls before Arun Harinath’s team declared on 317/5.
There was enough time remaining in the day for Surrey to claim three Gloucestershire wickets, who ended the day on 129/3.
Returning to the middle with Harinath, Welch soon took the play to the Gloucestershire bowlers but saw fellow top order batsmen Harinath (26), Jacks (23) and Green (24) lose their wicket after solid starts.
Euan Woods (19), Calvin Harrison (6) and Mat Pillans (16 not out) also provided support to Welch but it was the 20-year-old who starred with 20 fours and five sixes on the way.
Returning with the ball, Pillans had Miles Hammond LBW for just four before the off-break of Chris Green dismissed first innings top scorer Ian Cockbain for 11 and captain George Hankins for 35.
Gloucestershire return to the middle for the final day with a lead of 138 and seven second innings wickets remaining.
