Surrey Women made it two wins from two as they finalised pre-season preparations with a four wicket victory over Kent at Reed’s School on Sunday.
U17s bowler Claudie Cooper claimed four wickets for just 17 runs, including that of England international Natasha Farrant, as the visitors were bowled out for 151. Kira Chathli then top scored with 46 as Surrey reached the required total with four wickets and 11 overs to spare.
Having won the toss and elected to field, the pressure was on Surrey to take early wickets. Opening bowlers Priyanaz Chatterji and Beth Kerins did just that, claiming one each with Kent on 13/2 and England star Fran Wilson back in the hut.
Izzy Cloke (23) and Grace Scrivens (62) were the only two Kent players to make it to double figures thanks to an excellent Surrey bowling display. Laura Sandy and Eva Gray both came away with a wicket each but it was Cooper (4/17) and captain Hannah Jones (2/17) who ended with the best figures.
With plenty of time to manage the chase, Chathli hit her 46 from 76 balls including eight fours. Aylish Cranstone and Jones both scored 21 runs each to help Surrey along the way before Kerins and Chloe Brewer were there to seal the win.
Surrey Women begin their County Championship season on Sunday 5th May when they welcome Yorkshire to Reed’s School. Entry is free for all spectators and there will be a refreshment bar available.
