Tom Curran and Ben Foakes’ ‘South’ side have taken a winning 2-0 lead in their three match series with the ‘North’ in Dubai.
Curran’s 2/58 combined with a catch and a stumping from Foakes as the Surrey pair were once again content to play second fiddle to a headline contribution from a team mate who will soon be a rival – in this case Kent’s Sam Northeast, who hit 118* in the South’s intimidating total of 346/6.
Combined with 83 from Hampshire’s Liam Dawson and 78 from Middlesex’s Dawid Malan (his second decisive contribution of the series), it left Curran the rest of the bowlers with plenty of runs to play with as they restricted the North to 299/9 from their fifty overs, Tim Bresnan top scoring with a belligerent late innings 74 after Curran had earlier accounted for the dangerous pair of Keaton Jennings and Joe Clarke.
Behind the stumps, Foakes took a catch off Steven Finn to send Warwickshire opener Sam Hain back to the pavilion and then added a stumping in the 38th over to account for his team mate Josh Poysden off Dawson.
The South will now be aiming for a 3-0 whitewash when the series concludes in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday.
