Surrey CCC is launching a public consultation on plans to build new facilities at the Pavilion End of the Kia Oval to improve the match day experience and create space for offices and a restaurant.
The new building will see cricket fans enjoy high-quality new facilities including a bar, permanent food stands, a new ticket office, restrooms and a new 130 to 140-seat restaurant.
Our proposals also include two storeys of much-needed office space targeted at the creative and sports industries and a new glass-roofed atrium to enhance the experience of visiting the Kia Oval. This atrium could also be used on non-match days for exhibitions and other events.
The new development complements the recently redesigned Pavilion and opens out onto the new forecourt piazza, creating a new and attractive environment for spectators and local residents alike.
These proposals to improve the grounds form part of our larger programme of works to enhance the match day experience and provide useful facilities for the local community in Lambeth. In addition, the development will ensure that the Kia Oval remains one of the best places in the country to see a cricket match.
The new development will replace already consented plans for a hotel and restaurant. The plans are smaller in scale and will sit within part of the site set aside for the previous development.
Club members and the wider public are welcome to come view the plans at our drop-in sessions to be held at the Reception of the Kia Oval on Wednesday 30 April and Thursday 1 May between 3pm and 8pm. The venue is accessible via the main gate at the Pavilion End of the ground.
The club intends to submit a planning application to Lambeth Council in June 2014 with a view to completing the project, assuming planning approval, in time for the 2015 cricket season.
