Clarke helped Surrey win the County Championship in his debut year with the Club in 2002. Against Cambridge UCCE, in his first appearance for the Club, Clarke scored a century and then followed it with 153* against Somerset at Taunton.
On his International debut, Clarke claimed a wicket with his first ball in International cricket at the age of just 21 – he went on to make 21 further appearances for his country – the first player to do so for England in 31 years.
Clarke spent nine years at Warwickshire before returning to Surrey in the summer of 2017. His return to The Kia Oval could hardly have gone better; claiming 49 wickets and scoring 500 runs as he was nominated for the PCA Player of the Year during the title winning 2018 summer before he was the Club’s Player of the Year in 2019 – thanks to 713 runs and 47 wickets.
His testimonial year in 2021 is his final season as a professional cricketer having announced his upcoming retirement at the end of the current season.Related Articles
