Just seventeen deliveries were possible on the third day at the Kia Oval as Surrey progressed to 47-0. Graeme Smith (39*) and Rory Burns (7*) remain unbeaten and Surrey require a further 220 runs on the final day for victory.
Surrey began the day on their overnight 41-0 and Smith worked the 8th ball of the morning to the third man boundary off Benny Howell. But after two more deliveries the heavens opened and play did not resume until 5 o’clock with 25 overs remaining in the day.
Rory Burns registered his first run of the day and Smith found a single but after seven balls bad light forced the players back to the dressing rooms. The rain then arrived in earnest and play was abandoned for the day with Surrey 47-0.
The weather forecast is excellent for tomorrow and a fascinating and possibly nervous day awaits at the Kia Oval.
