Schools’ Day

Every season Surrey CCC, in partnership with the Cricket Foundation, invite every school in south London and Surrey to attend a match at the Kia Oval completely free of charge.

In 2014, over 3,500 pupils enjoyed watching Surrey play Leicestershire – also taking advantage of free coaching sessions, tours of the ground, autograph sessions featuring cricketing stars including Azhar Mahmood, Tom Curran and Kevin O’Brien from Surrey as well as Rachel Candy (Surrey Women and New Zealand Women), Jonathan Gale (Surrey LD/PD and England Learning Difficulty).

They also studied farm animals from the nearby Vauxhall City Farm, enjoyed a wide variety of sporting activities and attended special assemblies held by figures including Surrey CCC President Sir Trevor McDonald.

In 2015, Schools’ Day will take place on Tuesday June 2nd, the third day of Surrey’s LV= County Championship match against Lancashire. If you would like to apply for your school to come along then please e-mail

Ben Hollioake Learning Centre

The Ben Hollioake Learning Centre, named in honour of the late Surrey and England all-rounder Ben Hollioake, provides extra-curricular learning opportunities for over 400 pupils a term from local schools in Lambeth, Southwark and Wandsworth.

The ten-week programme takes place over three school terms, and aims to improve the motivations of young people, increase their self-esteem and aid them in becoming more effective learners and better achievers.

Participants on the programme develop confidence and key study skills in literacy, numeracy and ICT with the use of Apple computers which can be used on both MAC and Windows formats. This is complemented with a cricket session delivered by a qualified cricket coach, courtesy of the club. This culminates in an end of term ceremony in a suite of the OCS Stand, where pupils are awarded for their attitude, achievement, attendance and effort. The top awards winners receive a complimentary pair of tickets to a major match at the Kia Oval.

If your school is interested in taking part or for further information, please contact the Centre Manager on 020 7820 5743 or email
