The Second XI Championship game between Surrey and Gloucestershire is finely poised after the second day in Bristol, with all three results still possible.
Gloucestershire started the day on 4/0 and quickly lost Dan Housego, bowled by George Edwards for one. Former Hampshire man Benny Howell (62) and Ian Cockbain (54) then stabilised matters, putting on 112 for the second wicket before Cockbain was trapped LBW by Tim Linley.
Howell followed in the same manner shortly afterwards but Jordan Garrett (50) provided another lynchpin for the innings to reform around. He formed partnerships with Gilmour (10), Jack Taylor (35) and Marc Lezar (83) before being adjudged LBW to the spin of Tom Lancefield.
Lezar continued, adding another 61 with Ian Saxelby, but became Lancefield’s second victim when he was caught by Surrey triallist Ish Sohi and Gloucestershire declared three runs behind on 344/7.
That left Surrey nine overs to survive before the end of the day and Arun Harinath (10*) and Tom Lancefield (23*) were up to the task, moving Surrey to a lead of 39 by stumps.
Today is the last day of the match and Surrey will be looking to score quick runs this morning, thus setting a target for their hosts to chase in the afternoon.
