Player Bio

A leg spinner and a batter capable of featuring anywhere in the top order.

The leg spinning all-rounder joined the Club on loan midway through the 2021 season with a further two years on his deal after that campaign.

Steel has played 41 first-class matches, 11 List A games and 6 T20s in his professional career before moving to The Kia Oval.

After playing for Durham MCCU in 2014, 2015 and 2016, the California-born man signed professional terms with Durham in 2017. In his first season he became the youngest double-centurion in Durham history, scoring 224 against Leicestershire.

In 2018, he hit 160 against a high quality Sussex attack including Jofra Archer, Chris Jordan & Ollie Robinson in a match in which no other batsman scored more than 47.

He has also spent three of the last four Australian summers in grade cricket in Perth with Claremont Nedlands Cricket Club, where he took 41 wickets during the 2020/21 season.

He has enjoyed two excellent performances against Surrey’s Second XI in 2021, scoring 134 for Hampshire’s in a four-day friendly in April and taking 4/20 in a T20 at The Kia Oval in June.
