Rory Burns, Zafar Ansari and Tom Jewell have all signed new deals with Surrey County Cricket Club.
Ansari, 20, is now under contract until 2015, although he will be continuing his final year of studies at Cambridge University and is only under a summer deal for 2013. He will then be under a full contract for 2014 and 2015. The young all-rounder has enjoyed an excellent season with Surrey, opening the innings in the LV= County Championship and topping the batting averages in the Clydesdale Bank 40.
Burns, 22, has signed a full two year deal until 2014. The batsman and wicket keeper had an outstanding season for Surrey, scoring 741 first-class runs at 49.40 including a maiden Championship century in Surrey’s crucial win against Middlesex.
Jewell, 21, has signed a one year deal until the end of 2013. After a very good season in the Surrey Second XI, the Guildford all-rounder played excellently at Liverpool in the final game of the year, recording a highest first-class score of 70.
Speaking after signing his deal Zafar Ansari said: “When I looked at going to university my aim was to come out of it with a contract at the end of it and to have two full years to really dedicate to cricket.
“I want to now push on and go as far as I can. Surrey is the place is where I want to be from both a cricket perspective but also a personal perspective and I am very happy to have signed my new contract.”
Tom Jewell added: “I am really delighted with my new contract for the next year. It’s going to be a really exciting year and whilst obviously it’s been a tough year this year I’m looking ahead to next year already. I’m really excited and I just can’t wait to get started.”
Rory Burns concluded: “I’m really happy with my new contract. I’m absolutely chuffed and I love playing cricket for Surrey. “
Speaking about the trio, Surrey Team Director Chris Adams said: “Players like these three represent the future of Surrey CCC. They are all young, hungry and have played for the club for many years.
“As we have seen already this season, they all possess the qualities required to have long county careers and I look forward to working with them in the future to bring continued success to the club.”
