Surrey have employed the expertise of fielding coach Nic Pothas for the 2026 season.
Pothas has joined the men’s set-up as a specialist fielding coach. Nic will work on a part-time basis to work specifically on fielding.
The South African, who played an ODI for his country in 2000 and played for Hampshire for nine seasons, comes with a wealth of experience as a specialist fielding coach.
Pothas has had a distinguished career as a fielding coach, working with Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, West Indies and most recently Nepal at the ICC T20 World Cup.
Pothas, who has been with the Club since early March, said: “I’ve absolutely loved my time with the squad so far and am really looking forward to the season getting started.
“It’s a highly talented squad who are focused on becoming the best fielding outfit in the domestic game. At the elite level, tiny details in fielding can have a huge impact on the outcome of matches and thus a season. We are working hard to maximise the marginal gains in our fielding output.”
“It’s exciting to be a part of an environment which has experienced so much success and yet is still so driven to improve!”
Another change in the backroom staff see’s Paul Steele promoted to the role of Head of Sports Science and Medicine in the men’s set-up. Steele, who has been an integral part of the medical department since 2016, takes over from Alex Tysoe who has emigrated to Australia after 16 years of incredible service.
