Surrey have called up Alex Dodson, Marley Simpson and Oliver Gillespie from the Talent Pathway for the Metro Bank One Day Cup, which begins today with an away trip to Lancashire at Sedbergh.
With 17 Surrey players set to feature in The Hundred and injuries to seamers Nathan Barnwell, Alex French, and Seb Stuart-Reckling, the Three Feathers have added these three Pathway players to their 50-over set-up.
Barnwell suffered a stress fracture earlier this season, while French picked up a side strain during an England U19s match, and Stuart-Reckling got a groin injury in the recent Second XI friendly against Hampshire.
Fast bowlers Simpson, 18, and Gillespie, 17, will supplement Surrey’s seam attack, whilst Dodson, 18, will provide another wicket-keeping-batter option to the team.
Dodson is from Epsom College and plays his club cricket for Banstead CC. Earlier this year, he was inducted into the Surrey Academy alongside all-rounder Simpson, who is from Whitgift School. Right-arm seamer Gillespie plays for Surrey U17s and Ashstead CC, and goes to Sutton Grammar School.
Alec Stewart, Director of Men’s Cricket at Surrey, said: “With several injuries in the group, we’ve brought in three promising players from the Surrey Pathway to supplement our seam attack and add another wicket-keeper-batter for the One Day Cup.
“It is a good learning opportunity for Alex, Marley, and Oliver to be around the senior team and show their skills should they get a chance.”
