Assistant Coach Jim Troughton will depart Surrey at the end of the 2026 season to return to Warwickshire as a Batting Coach
Troughton joined the Three Feathers ahead of the 2022 season and helped the group win three County Championship titles in a row from 2022-2024.
As well as helping the Club achieve success on the field, Troughton has played a key role in developing the batters at the Club. He’s been instrumental in helping younger players in the squad progress into first team players, as well as working closely with players progressing to the international stage.
Troughton was also a key part of the Oval Invincibles men’s team staff in The Hundred. He was batting coach for the team that won three consecutive titles from 2023 to 2025.
Troughton has a long association with Warwickshire, having represented the Club from 1999 to 2014 and captaining his home Club to the County Championship title in 2012. He has also worked as a Head Coach at Warwickshire.
Director of Men’s Cricket Alec Stewart said: “On behalf of the whole Club, I’d like to thank Jim Troughton for his hard work, dedication and impact on the men’s playing staff. We always say that family comes first, so we understand and fully appreciate the decision he has made to work closer to home.
The opportunity to move back to a Club he served with distinction for many years as player, captain and coach is understandable. We thank him for his service at Surrey and wish him well in his new role.”
On departing, Jim Troughton said: “I’ve absolutely loved my five years at Surrey and the Kia Oval. It’s been an honour to be part of a successful period for the Club. It’s an incredible place filled with great people.
“The decision to leave was a tough one, but the right one for me and my family. The opportunity to continue doing what I love, but being closer to home is very important. I wish the players, staff and Club all the best in the future and I’m looking forward to finishing the season on a high.”
