Surrey’s Second XI wrapped up a nine-wicket victory over Gloucestershire at Thornbury. With no play possible on the second day due to persistent rain, Surrey resumed on the third day on 249/4
Surrey six wickets in quick succession to be bowled out for 308. Tim Lloyd didn’t capitalise on his good start as he was dismissed for 78 – Surrey’s second highest score after captain Sykes’ 107.
With a lead of 147 runs, Alex French got straight into his work, bowling opener Dunne with the 18th ball of the innings. Surrey took wickets at regular intervals, but Glos’ Logan Bowden kept his sides innings together. He made 67 at the top of the order, as Surrey’s Academy trio of seamers took wickets at the other end.
Academy seamer Oliver Mortlock was the pick of the Surrey bowlers, taking 3/53. He was helped by Academy bowlers Marlie Simpson (2/40) and Rowan Kennedy (2/28).
Some lower order hitting from OJ Brown (42) helped Gloucestershire to 203, meaning Surrey required 57 runs to win.
Nikhil Gorantla (24) and Ollie Sykes (29) took Surrey home to a nine-wicket victory, chasing the required runs inside seven overs.
