Surrey have signed frontline spinner and three-time winner of the Hundred, Nathan Sowter on a multi-year deal
The leg spin bowler makes the move to south London from the 2027 season on a white-ball only contract after spending five seasons at Durham.
Sowter, who has been one of the standout domestic white-ball spin bowlers in recent years, has called the Kia Oval home for the last five editions of The Hundred. He was an integral part of the Oval Invincibles’ three titles in a row from 2023 to 2025 – with his crowning moment being named Player of the Match in the 2025 final. He was retained for MI London in the 2026 competition, delivering some excellent performances.
Born in Penrith on the outskirts of Sydney, Sowter was part of New South Wales’ age-group before moving to the UK. He settled in Surrey and started playing with Normandy CC in 2013 — where he continues to play.
Sowter’s professional career started with Middlesex in 2015 after impressing for Normandy. He then made the move up to Durham in 2022. Impressive performances in the Vitality Blast and The Hundred have helped Sowter earn deals in the CPL and ILT20. He received his first England Lions call-up in March’s series with the Pakistan Shaheens in the UAE.
Sowter has taken 196 wickets from 195 T20 matches and is excellent in the field, taking 76 catches in his T20 career.
