Rachel King has signed her first full-time rookie contract with Surrey, having been with the squad on a temporary basis since May.
King made her T20 debut opening the batting against Essex in a Kia Oval thriller and was a part of the squad as Surrey made history as the Three Feathers lifted the Champion’s trophy in the Vitality Blast.
With the bat, King is a versatile option with experience facing off against the new ball as well as offering a powerful middle-order option.
A regular for Surrey’s 2nd XI, she impressed with a top score of 55* in a friendly for Surrey Women, consistently representing the Three Feathers.
The 20-year-old is also a reliable wicketkeeping option, known for her quick hands behind the stumps. She has represented Sussex in tier two cricket throughout the season to further bolster her playing experience.
Emma Calvert, Director of Women’s Cricket at Surrey, said “We’re really looking forward to having Rachel with us this winter. She has been a great character in the dressing room this season and we look forward to making that permanent.
“Rachel has worked very hard this season and impressed the coaching team. I am excited to see this continue through the winter and what progress she will make.”
Rachel King’s thoughts on the signing “I am so grateful for the opportunity to extend my time at Surrey. Working with the coaches over this season has been really influential on my career and I am very excited to learn even more.
“This last season has been fantastic, winning the Blast with the girls will forever be a longstanding highlight in my career and I hope to make more of these memories wearing a Surrey badge soon.”
