A mix of professionals and Academy prospects have been named in the Surrey 2nd XI squad to face Somerset at Taunton Vale in the four-day 2nd XI Championship, starting on Monday.

First team professionals Nicholas Kimber, Ryan Patel & Amar Virdi will get vital match practice ahead of the return of the LV= County Championship on the 4th July.

Joining them in Taunton are a number of young prospects including seamers Nathan Barnwell & Ben Townsend and top order batters Sheridan Gumbs, George Ealham & U15 players Krish Patel.

18-year-old right arm pace bowler Barnwell will play his first 2nd XI Championship fixture in three years while Ben Townsend will play his first Championship game at this level after four T20 appearances earlier this season.

Gumbs & Patel will play their first 2nd XI red-ball fixtures having made just one 2nd XI T20 appearance against Middlesex earlier this season. Patel has scored 112 runs in three U18 County Cup innings so far this year and Gumbs has made 69 in two innings.

Completing the squad is wicket keeper Justin Broad, Sunbury leg spinner Colby Dyer and Essex born Matt Doran.
