George Ealham (3/32) and Ben Townsend (3/39) were the star bowlers as Surrey had Somerset 256/9 declared. Navigating a tricky seven over period at the end of the day, Surrey ended on 20/2.

Justin Broad (2/34) and Academy bowler Nathan Barnwell (1/69) were the other men to get in on the wickets.

Ryan Patel (5) and Academy batter Sheridon Gumbs (2) were the two to go in the early stages of Surrey’s response. Matt Doran and Broad will begin Day 3 at the crease.

DAY 3

Surrey suffered a collapse in the first knockings of the day and were bowled out for 96. Somerset extended their first innings lead across the remainder of the day to end on 226/5, with a lead of 386.

Justin Broad (19), Colby Dyer (15) and Academy bowler Nathan Barnwell (17 not out) were the only men to go into double figures on Wednesday for Surrey.

An Eddie Byrom century was the key pillar in that Somerset total but three wickets for Amar Virdi including that of Byrom and fellow opener Steven Davies gave Surrey something to shout about.
