Where are your Surrey players this winter?
It’s another busy winter for Surrey cricketers with the squad heading around the world to play club, franchise and international cricket.
Concentrated in Australia, many of the Three Feathers are honing their craft in the warmer climate.
International Duty
On international duty Danni Wyatt-Hodge, Sophia Dunkley and Alice Capsey helped steer England to a semifinal at the ICC One Day Women’s World Cup and will join their Surrey counterparts for a winter down-under in the WBBL later this month.
Meanwhile, Gus Atkinson, Will Jacks, Ollie Pope and Jamie Smith are also wearing the Three Lions as part of England’s Ashes squad. The first Test of a mouth-watering five match series gets underway in Perth on 21st November.
Matthew Fisher and Tom Lawes are heading down under with the England Lions. The Lions will face the England men’s team in a warm-up match before three matches against various Cricket Australia XIs.
All-rounder Priyanaz Chatterji is on international duties and will represent Scotland in Thailand in the Emerging Nations Trophy this November.
Franchise
The ILT20 kicks off at the start of the December, with plenty of Surrey involvement. Sam Curran will once again be with the Desert Vipers alongside Dan Lawrence.
In the WBBL, Danni Wyatt-Hodge will return to Hobart Hurricanes and Alice Capsey to Melbourne Renegades. The two continue their stints at their respective clubs, with Capsey looking to maintain the Renegades title after finishing top of the table in 2024/25.
Sophia Dunkley is exploring new pastures with Sydney Sixers for the first time. Whilst Paige Scholfield makes her WBBL debut for Perth Scorchers.
Once the BBL commences, Jamie Overton (Adelaide Strikers), Chris Jordan (Hobart Hurricanes) and Tom Curran (Melbourne Stars) will stay with their Big Bash League teams. Sam Curran has also been drafted by the Sydney Sixers and will head to Australia after the conclusion of the ILT20. Laurie Evans returns to the Perth Scorchers after spending a year with the Renegades.
On New Years Day the SA2o will get underway. Dan Worrall will once again represent the Sunrisers Eastern Cape and Reece Topley will turn out for the Johannesburg Super Kings after representing Durban Super Giants in the first two editions of the SA20. Dan Lawrence was also picked up by the Paarl Royal in the draft.
Club
Perth Grade Cricket is where much of the Surrey Men’s squad are heading for a few months.
Adam Thomas, who signed his first professional contract with the Club at the start of the 2025 season, has started life brilliantly at Mount Lawley CC in Perth, hitting 169 in his first match and 76 in his second. He is joined in Western Australia by Ollie Sykes (Subiaco Floreat), Nathan Barnwell (Midland Guildford) and Ryan Patel (Wanneroo Districts).
Kira Chathli and Kalea Moore will head back to their clubs Carlton Cricket Club and Sunshine Coast Cricket Club, whilst Dani Gregory and Phoebe Franklin explore their first winters away.
As for the remainder of Surrey’s squad, they will continue to work hard at the Kia Oval, perfecting skills and fitness for the upcoming season.
